THE STORY OF THIS LOT
The Central Valley is the historic heart of Costa Rican coffee: elevation, steady rainfall, and volcanic soil, all working toward a clean, balanced cup. Café Vida is a lot drawn from several micromills in the region, capturing the classic character of a washed Costa Rican: gentle sweetness, soft acidity, and toasted nuts. The process is washed with a mechanical demucilager, a common practice in the country because of the national coffee authority's rules on water use. The result is a direct, reliable coffee that sits especially well as espresso.

THIS COFFEE IS FOR YOU IF
You want a sweet, balanced espresso that is easy to dial in at home.
You like a shot that also works in cappuccino and flat white.
You prefer a clean washed coffee to a dark, over-roasted one.

Frequently asked questions

What is the Trama House Espresso?

It's our permanent espresso, always filled with a fresh seasonal lot. When one lot sells out, we replace it with another chosen to the same standard: a sweet, balanced shot with medium body, easy to dial in at home and good both straight and with milk. The current origin, process and tasting notes are always shown at the top of this page and on the bag.

How should I dial it in?

A good starting point is 18g of coffee in, 36 to 40g of espresso out, in 27 to 32 seconds, with water at around 93°C. If the shot tastes sour or runs too fast, grind finer. If it tastes bitter or runs too slow, grind coarser. Change one thing at a time and weigh every shot.

Can I use it in a moka pot or for filter?

Yes. It works very well in a moka pot with a grind slightly coarser than espresso and low heat. In an AeroPress it makes a rich, full cup. For V60 or Chemex, it will taste rounder and less bright than a filter roast, so our House Filter is the better pick there
